Files never leave this browser tab
A PDF redactor with nothing to upload

Black it out. Actually remove it.

Mark names, numbers, signatures or images and this tool deletes them from the file itself, not just hides them under a box. It all happens inside your browser.

Download redacted PDF

Redacted pages were rebuilt as flat images, so the covered text and graphics no longer exist in the file. Pages you didn't mark keep their selectable text. Your original file is untouched.

How it works

01

Drop your PDF

It opens directly in the page using your browser's own PDF engine. No network request involved.

02

Mark what to remove

Search for words and patterns like emails and phone numbers, or drag boxes over anything, including images and signatures.

03

Redact and download

Marked pages are redrawn with the black boxes burned in, then saved as a new PDF on your device.

Why redact locally

The file you're hiding things in stays private

Redacting is for sensitive documents. Uploading one to a stranger's server to remove its secrets defeats the point.

Removed, not covered

Many tools only paint a box over the text, and the words can still be copied out. Here the page is rebuilt so there's nothing underneath.

Works without a connection

Once this page is loaded, redacting a file doesn't need the network again.

Frequently asked questions

Is this real redaction, or just black boxes on top?

It's real. Each page with a redaction is redrawn as an image with the black boxes burned in, and the original text, images and hidden layers on that page are discarded. Nothing sits underneath the boxes to be copied, searched or recovered.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and processed inside your browser tab. No server receives it, and there is no account. Closing the tab clears everything.

Why can't I select text on redacted pages?

Because those pages are now images. That's what makes the removal permanent. Pages you didn't mark are copied across unchanged and keep their selectable text.

Can the redactions be undone after I download?

No, and that is intended. Keep your original file if you may need the unredacted version. Before downloading, you can remove any box with its × button, or use Undo and Clear all.

"Find and mark" didn't find my text. What now?

Scanned PDFs and photos of documents have no text to search, so draw boxes by hand instead. Text split oddly by the original software, such as an email broken across lines, may also be missed, so always scan the pages before you redact.

Can I redact images, logos and signatures?

Yes. Drag a box over any area of the page. Everything inside it, whether text, image or vector graphic, is blacked out and removed from the rebuilt page.

What happens to metadata, bookmarks and attachments?

The new file starts with blank title, author, subject and keywords. Bookmarks, embedded attachments and form data are not carried over, which avoids leaking information from places you can't see.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Not directly. Remove the password in your PDF viewer first, then redact the unlocked copy.

Does it work on phones, and is there a size limit?

Yes. On a touch screen, turn "Draw boxes" off to scroll the pages and on to draw. There's no upload cap, but very large files depend on your device's memory, so use the Compact setting if a long document runs slowly.
