How it works

01

Drop your PDF

It loads directly into the page using your browser’s own PDF engine — no network request involved.

02

Set it up, see it live

Pick the corner, format, font and pages. The preview updates as you change each option, and you can flip through every page.

03

Download the result

The numbers are written onto your original pages as real text, then the finished PDF saves straight to your downloads folder.

Why number pages locally

Nothing to intercept

Contracts, theses, case files, manuscripts — your document stays on your machine instead of passing through a third party’s server.

Your pages stay exactly as they were

Nothing is flattened or converted to images. Text stays selectable, and links, bookmarks and forms keep working. Only the numbers are added.

Works without a connection

Once this page is loaded, numbering a file doesn’t need the network again.

Questions people ask

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and edited by code running in your own browser tab, and nothing is sent to a server. Once the page has finished loading you can even switch off your connection and keep numbering files.

Will adding page numbers reduce the quality of my PDF?

No. Numbers are added as real text on top of your existing pages. Nothing is converted to images, so text stays selectable and links, bookmarks and form fields keep working. The file size barely changes.

How do I skip the cover page or number only some pages?

Tick “Skip the first page”, or choose odd pages only, even pages only, or a custom range such as 2-10, 12, 15-. The preview tells you when the page you’re looking at won’t get a number.

How do I start numbering from a different number?

Set “Start numbering at”. If you skip pages, you can also decide whether they still count: with “Still count”, the second page of a document with a skipped cover shows 2; with “Don’t count”, it shows 1.

Can I show “Page 3 of 20” or use Roman numerals?

Yes. Pick one of the format presets or choose Custom text and write your own with {n} for the page number and {total} for the last number, for example “Page {n} of {total}”. Number style switches between 1, 2, 3, i, ii, iii, I, II, III and a, b, c.

Which fonts can I use?

Helvetica, Times and Courier, each with bold and italic. These fonts are built into every PDF viewer, so your numbers look the same everywhere and no font data is added to your file. Custom font uploads aren’t supported.

Does it work with landscape, rotated or mixed-size pages?

Yes. Each number is placed relative to that page’s own visible edges, and it is rotated to read upright on pages that are rotated, such as scans saved sideways.

Can I set up page numbers for double-sided printing?

Yes. Turn on “Alternate sides for double-sided printing”. Left and right positions swap on even pages, so a bottom-right number sits on the outer corner of both sides of the sheet.

My PDF is password-protected. Can I still number it?

Not directly. Open it in a PDF viewer, enter the password, then save or print it to a new PDF and load that copy here.

Can I remove the numbers afterwards?

No. The numbers become part of the page content in the new file, so keep your original. This tool never changes the file you upload, and each run starts again from that original.

Is there a file size or page limit?

This tool doesn’t set one. Everything is processed in your device’s memory, so very large files may be slow on older phones and tablets.

The tool says it could not load its PDF engine. What now?

The PDF libraries are loaded when the page opens. An ad blocker, a strict firewall or a lost connection can stop them. Disable the blocker for this page or reload.
